SAN DIEGO ZOO PERFORMS NECESSARY SURGERY ON JEWEL, THE ELEPHANT

San Diego Zoo veterinarians and a crew of over thirty assistants surgically removed malfunctioning portions of Jewel's teeth. The procedure should result in weight gain and
better health for the ailing elephant who was confiscated by the US Department of Agriculture this summer.
