Feed the Animals

Every day PAWS provides vital nutrition, supplements and medication for the animals at PAWS to afford the best quality of life, in addition to reducing painful predisposed ailments, whenever possible.

Every day, Wanda and Winky (Asian elephants) require foot soaks of apple cider vinegar and Epson salt and water to rehabilitate their feet. They suffer from malformed toenails and foot pads, due to many years of walking on a concrete slab rather than foraging on natural dirt terrain, in the wild.

Every day, Minnie (Asian elephant) requires cranberry sauce in her diet to sustain normal function of her bladder. If Minnie is not given her daily dose of cranberry sauce she becomes very ill with urinary tract inflammation and infection.

Every day, tigers, elephants and some bears at PAWS require anti-inflammatory medication for pre-disposed arthritis or degenerative joint disease, due to improper breeding or many years of walking and standing on concrete rather than natural dirt terrain.

Giving the anti-inflammatory medication is tricky because like us, the animals do not like to take pills.  To make the pill taking regimen more enjoyable PAWS keepers stuff Fig Newtons with the anti-inflammatory medication for the elephants and bears, which they really enjoy. The tigers get their medication in their daily meat meals. The cost to supply the animals at PAWS with anti-inflammatory medication each month is approximately $4,000.00

To maintain good digestion health, PAWS feeds the elephants bran and special supplemental pellets, which cost approximately $30.00 per bag multiplied by eleven elephants. Total approximate monthly cost is $2,700.00

The eleven elephants at PAWS consume up to five bails of grass hay each day.  To support the elephants grass hay consumption, PAWS purchases approximately 150 bails of hay, each month, at an estimated cost of $1,000.00

It’s easy to feed the animals online with our safe & secure virtual "Feed the Animals" shopping basket.  All proceeds from "Feed the Animals" will be used to purchase food items or to go towards operating expenses directly related to food distribution.
